Instructions for Morning Colonoscopy Procedure - SUPREP

A. IMPORTANT
1) BLOOD THINNING DRUGS (Coumadin, Brilinta, Xarelto, Eliquis, Effient, Plavix, Pradaxa, Aggrenox, Lovenox, etc.) MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE THE PROCEDURE. Notify us immediately if you take any of these medications so our staff can give you detailed instructions on when to stop taking them.
2) Stop taking ALL of the following 5 days before procedure unless instructed by our staff:
a) Iron
b) Aspirin or aspirin products
c) Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Motrin, Advil, Naprosyn, etc.)
3) Have a relative or friend drive you home (or take a taxi with you) after the procedure). You are NOT allowed to drive or take a taxi home unaccompanied after the procedure.
4) Notify us at least 7 days prior to the day of procedure if you have any of the following:
a) History of liver, kidney (dialysis), heart or lung diseases
b) Use of insulin
c) Excessive bleeding during previous surgery or dental extraction
d) Other special health care needs
e)Travel plans within 7 days after procedure
5) Starting 3 days before colonoscopy, avoid high fiber food such as nuts, seeds, corn, or raw fruits and vegetables. These items are difficult to clean out.
6) Prescription for Suprep kit will be sent to your pharmacy.
7) If you need to change your procedure time, please call us at (650) 324-8881 at least 48 business hours in advance. There is a $200 fee for late cancellations or no-shows. This fee is not covered by insurance.
B. ONE DAY BEFORE COLONOSCOPY
1) Beginning at breakfast, CLEAR LIQUID DIET only (tea, black coffee, apple juice, clear sodas, chicken broth, green or yellow Gatorade, green or yellow Jell-O). No milk. No red or purple drinks or Jell-O, as that may look like blood in your colon.
2) Take medicines on your regular schedule, unless instructed by our staff.
Remember: A-1 above.
3) Drink the first bottle of Suprep at 3 PM. Pour Suprep into mixing container. Add cool drinking water to the 16 oz line on container and mix. Be sure to dilute Suprep BEFORE drinking. Drink ALL the liquid in container. YOU MUST DRINK TWO (2) MORE 16 OZ CONTAINERS OF WATER OVER THE NEXT ONE (1) HOUR. Continue clear liquids as desired. The prep will cause multiple bowel movements within 1 to 3 hours, and the diarrhea may last several hours. Nausea, cramps and even vomiting may develop in some patients taking the prep. If these symptoms develop, you may take a break from drinking the prep. After symptoms lessen, resume drinking the prep. You may prepare baby wipes and hemorrhoid cream to sooth the anal irritation.

1) Nothing to eat or drink (not even water) 2 hours before the procedure. Take medicines on your regular schedule up until 2 hours before the procedure.
2) Arrive 1 hour before your procedure time for nursing preparation at the STANFORD HOSPITAL ENDOSCOPY UNIT 300 Pasteur Drive Room H-0262 Stanford, CA 94305.
